Global Science & Technology, Inc. (GST), a growing scientific and high technology company, is seeking a Environmental Metadata Specialist to support NOAAs National Center for Environmental Information (NCEI).  The position is located in Stennis Space Center, MS.

Position Summary:

The Environmental Metadata Specialist will provide science, stewardship and support services for the Center for Coasts, Oceans, and Geophysics (CCOG).

Primary Duties:

The Environmental Metadata Specialist shall develop data products and services that incorporate the contributions and serve the needs of the diverse stakeholder community for the Coastal Data Development (CDD) Program, Gulf of Mexico Restoration, Coastal Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourism, and the RESTORE Act Science Program.

Required Education/Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in Science or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with up to 16 years of total experience.
  • Requisite abilities and experience in generating, validating, and working with US and international metadata standards including ISO 19115 (Geographic Information - Metadata), working knowledge of biological data metadata including Ecological Metadata Language (EML) and Darwin Core required as well as resource description formats including MARCXML. Additionally, two years of experience in XML and particularly authoring XML transforms.
  • Experience in developing standards-based metadata training materials and two years minimum documented formal metadata instruction/teaching experience required (must include a course description and student demographic information).

Physical Qualification(s):

  • Ability to use a computer.             

Mental Qualification(s):

  • Must be able to effectively communicate technical information (written and verbal) and work status accurately and reliable to project leads and managers.

U.S. citizenship or Permanent Residency is required.
