Global Science & Technology, Inc. (GST), a growing scientific and high technology company, seeks an experienced Machine Learning Specialist to support a major program at NOAA's Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR).  Position is located in College Park, MD. 

Position Summary:

Satellite measurements and derived products are used for numerical weather prediction and developed for environmental monitoring and applications. New and advanced systems need to be treated with special care to extract as much information as possible, and to speed up readiness for their exploitation. New numerical approaches must be developed, and existing ones should be extended and tailored to advance the data exploitation of new observing systems and to support advanced programs to produce global, high-resolution products that exploit all data efficiently.

The Machine Learning Specialist will provide support in the areas of machine learning, artificial intelligence, cognitive learning, deep neural networks, coupled variational approaches and data fusion. 

Duties:

  • Optimize the STAR activities in terms of next generation enterprise algorithms by exploring new numerical approaches
  • Develop enterprise data fusion algorithm to generate L3 and L4 products for a multitude of geophysical parameters
  • Consolidate inversion systems with dual use in retrieval and data assimilation quality control and pre-processing, to help STAR and NESDIS in its effort to achieve a cutting edge enterprise that is agile, cost effective and robust 

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Master's degree or higher in Computer Science with a physical sciences background, Meteorology, Oceanography, or other environmental and space sciences, engineering or systems engineering is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience. 

Desired Experience:

  • NOAA or NASA experience. 

Physical Qualification(s):

  • Ability to use a computer. 

Mental Qualification(s):

  • Must be able to effectively communicate technical information (written and verbal) and work status accurately and reliable to project leads and manager. 

U.S. citizenship or Permanent Residency (Green Card holder) is strongly preferred.
