Global Science & Technology, Inc., a fast growing scientific and high technology firm, is seeking a Scientific Programmer to support the NOAA NESDIS/STAR program.  The position is located in College Park, MD.

Position Summary:

Global Science and Technology is seeking qualified candidates for The Laboratory for Satellite Altimetry (LSA), residing within the NOAA/NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR). LSA utilizes altimeter data for the estimation of sea surface height, significant wave height and surface winds. The selected applicant will develop code for innovative experimental data products from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Altimeter data. Any developed software will go into the LSA's code repository, and the applicant will also help the group transition the SAR experimental products to operations. 

Primary Duties:

  • Converting existing IDL code into C/C++ code.
  • Code optimization for improved performance.
  • Code parallelization and installation in high performance facilities.
  • Testing and evaluating software.
  • Documenting code following LSA coding conventions.
  • Working with existing LSA staff, including training staff in code developed and transitioning code.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Oceanography, and/or other Physical Sciences and Engineering and a minimum of 1 year of professional experience. Previous work experience is required with strong recommendation from previous employers.
  • Experience with scientific programming languages, such as IDL and/or Matlab.
  • Experience with programming in C/C++.
  • Experience working in the Linux/Unix OS environment.
  • Experience with Git or similar code revision control software. 

Desired Experience/Skills:

  • Experience in high performance computing.
  • Experience working with large data arrays.
  • Relevant work experience.

Physical Qualification(s) Required:

  • Ability to use a computer.

Mental Qualification(s) Required:

  • Ability to think on one's feet.

U.S. citizenship or Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) is required.
