Global Science & Technology, a growing scientific and high technology firm, is seeking an experienced Full-Stack Developer to support a major NOAA contract located in College Park, MD.


The successful candidate will work with a group of scientists and software developers at the Satellite Oceanography and Climatology Division (SOCD) under the NOAA Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR). The position is long term, contingent upon performance.

Required Skills:

  • Solid quantitative background, with a M.S. degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Atmospheric/Oceanic Sciences
  • 8-10 years of experience with scientific/technical programming
  • Mastery of Linux/Unix OS fundamentals
  • Excellent programming skills in C++ and Python, and familiarity with Fortran 2003/2008.  Interviewees will be asked to submit sample codes/programs.
  • Knowledge of basic web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience building robust, efficient data flows, taking advantage of the latest hardware (e.g. parallel file systems) and software (e.g. Apache Airflow)
  • Desire to work with scientists and software developers to implement both back-end data processing and front-end web interface applications in a high performance computing (cluster)environment
  • Knowledge of statistical tools for scientific data analysis
  • Ability to contribute to scientific presentations and publications
  • Experience with reading, modifying and enhancing existing legacy code
  • Familiarity with version control software (e.g. Git)
  • Excellent teamwork, strong inter-personal, communication, and analytical skills

 Desired Skills:

  • Working knowledge of radiative transfer physics and models, and inversion techniques
  • Knowledge of remote sensing, satellite & oceanographic data, systems, and analyses 
  • Proficiency with Fortran 2003/2008 is a strong plus

U.S. citizenship is a plus.
