Global Science & Technology, Inc. (GST), a growing scientific and high technology company, seeks an experienced Software/Test Engineer to support the Hydrospheric and Biospheric Support Services (HBS) program at NASA.  Position is located in Lanham, MD.

Position Summary:

  • Support NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) through the Hydrospheric and Biospheric Science Support Services (HBS) contract using programming skills to support the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) data operations group
  • Perform system, software, and hardware troubleshooting for VIIRS data sets from Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (NPP) and Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) satellite sensors
  • Generate and maintain Land products using NASA Science team algorithms
  • Perform system tests, science tests, and debug MODIS Adaptive Processing System Services (MODAPS) errors and Product Generation Executable (PGE) errors
  • Work with VIIRS and MODIS science team members and their code developers to support the development and integration of MODIS and VIIRS PGEs (primary focus VIIRS)
  • Perform VIIRS and MODIS command line testing and integration testing in the MODAPS environment and upon successful integration of the code, makes deliveries of code to the Configuration Management (CM) Group for baselining in data operation. 

Primary Duties:

  • Maintain NPP/VIIRS code integration cycles by integrating and writing new code, performing unit tests and integration tests and delivering code packages for baselining
  • Transition new NASA code into our LSIPS system
  • Work on documentation, code, creating test cases and running unit tests and integration tests
  • Trouble shooting and support for any problems in VIIRS data production
  • Creating new code and generating new products for NASA Land Science Information Processing System
  • Estimate time and schedule for projects
  • Interact with CM to get products delivered and baselined
  • Work with QA group to provide feedback for developers and write discrepancy reports when necessary  

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Physical Sciences or related field and minimum 3 years of experience or equivalent. Appropriate years of relevant experience can substitute for degree
  • Minimum of 3 years of scientific programming experience with C, C++ or Fortran90
  • Proficiency in Unix/Linux/Windows operating systems with a minimum of 3 years of experience with Perl or Unix shell scripts
  • Capable of using debugging tools like Valgrind and GDB
  • Experience with Perl and Python and ability to work with HDF/HDF5/NetCDF format and tools such as HDFview, HDFLook, ENVI
  • Experience in collaborating effectively with other team members to meet deadlines
  • Good communication skills 

Physical Qualification(s) Required:

  • Ability to use a computer. 

Mental Qualification(s) Required:

  • Must be able to effectively communicate technical information (written and verbal) and work status accurately and reliably to project leads and managers 

U.S. citizenship is highly desired.
