Global Science & Technology, Inc. (GST), a growing scientific and high technology company, seeks an experienced Senior Web Developer to support NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's Earth Sciences Directorate.  Position is located in Lanham, MD.

 Position Summary:

  • Work with a highly-motivated team of web services personnel on-site at the Goddard Space Flight Center providing technical leadership to communicate the leading edge of NASA Earth Science.
  • Support NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) through the Hydrospheric and Biospheric Science Support Services (HBS) contract using programming skills to develop, update, improve, and manage Earth science web sites.  Responsible for the security, maintenance and modernization of websites and web applications in addition to the development of new sites using industry best practices.
  • Work with scientists, outreach specialists, Earth Science administrators, content curators, and system administrators on major, public-facing Earth science web sites and services. 

Primary Duties:

  • Analyze, assess, refactor, develop, and test both frontend and backend code for web sites.
  • Troubleshoot applications utilizing the appropriate languages, software, hardware, and database technologies for web servers.
  • Build and maintain custom modules and themes for Content Management Systems.
  • Use Git revision control systems (Bitbucket, Github) for managing software repositories.
  • Work with tools such as Ansible, Bamboo, Composer, Drush, NPM and Yarn to routinely test, upgrade and patch 3rdparty software on a variety of systems.

Secondary Duties:

  • Perform cross-device and cross-platform compatibility testing.
  • Utilize Agile project management tools such as JIRA, Service Desk, and Confluence.
  • Manage time, priorities and requests for a broad range of tasks.
  • Translate technical concepts into language that can be easily understood by a wide variety of audiences and skill levels.
  • Provide hands-on content management training on a per need basis. 

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree and minimum 5 years of experience or equivalent in the field of web site development.
  • 4+ years of experience with PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX, CSS, and HTML.
  • 2+ Years of experience working with the Drupal Content Management System and Object-Oriented PHP.
  • Strong understanding of language-specific secure programming techniques.
  • Proficiency in UNIX/LINUX operating systems and the Apache Web Server. 
  • Able to collaborate effectively with other team members to meet deadlines.

 Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Familiarity with Scrum-based agile development methodologies and best practices.
  • Experience with responsive design frameworks such as Bootstrap.
  • Prior experience working with REST-based frameworks such as Laravel.
  • Proficient with Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Good communication skills.
