Global Science & Technology, Inc. (GST), a growing scientific and high technology company, seeks an experienced SAR Altimetry Specialist to support the Laboratory for Satellite Altimetry (LSA) on the NOAA/NESDIS/STAR contract.  Position is located in College Park, MD. 

Position Summary:

The Laboratory for Satellite Altimetry, residing within the NOAA/NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR), is seeking a SAR Altimetry Specialist. The selected applicant will develop innovative experimental data products from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Altimeter data. Any developed software will go into the LSA's code repository, and the SAR Altimetry Specialist will also help the group transition the SAR experimental products to operations.

Primary Duties:

  • Work with existing LSA staff to develop innovative data processing methods for SAR Altimetry, specifically fully focused SAR Altimetry, for the Level-1 and Level-2 processing.
  • Broaden the fully focused SAR  processing scientific applications portfolio, specially over sea-ice and in-land waters.
  • Consolidate and transition experimental SAR altimetry  products to operations.
  • Document code following LSA coding conventions.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Minimum BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science and/or other Physical Sciences and a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience with appropriate graduate level research completed in conjunction with degree studies.
  • Proficiency with Linux/Unix OS; Excellent programming skills in languages such as IDL, Fortran 2003/2008, Perl/Python, C/C++.
  • Extensive knowledge on conventional and SAR altimetry, including a broad understanding of subsystems involved in the determination of geophysical parameters.
  • Experience with processing low-level radar altimetry data.

Desired Experience/Skills:

  • Experience working with large data arrays.
  • Knowledge of other satellite remote sensing data, systems and analyses, such as SAR and radiometer data will be a plus.
  • Experience with Git or similar code revision control software will be a plus.

Physical Qualification(s) Required:

  • Ability to use a computer. 

Mental Qualification(s) Required:

  • Ability to think on one's feet.
