Global Science & Technology, Inc., a fast growing scientific and high technology firm, is seeking a Web Developer to support the NOAA STAR program.  The position is located in College Park, MD. 

Position Summary:

The Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) is NOAA's premiere research office for developing the satellite algorithms needed to transform satellite observations to environmental measurements.  Seeking a Web Developer to support STAR's efforts to assess the impact of future, emerging and contemporary satellite-derived observations on environmental data products and numerical models. 

Primary Duties:

  • Work with the team to develop responsive web interfaces, compatible with technical and security requirements
  • Manage diverse website content elements (text, tables, figures, etc.)
  • Lead web performance activities, analyzing performance metrics
  • Analyze, assess, refactor, develop, and test both frontend and backend code for web sites
  • Work with team to support integration and troubleshooting
  • Troubleshoot applications utilizing the appropriate languages, software, hardware, and database technologies for web servers
  • Build and maintain custom modules and themes
  • Develop visually appealing designs of website, for science applications
  • Responsible for website testing, software integration testing, website maintenance, documentation, and meeting software quality, and compliance standards 

Secondary Duties:

  • Perform cross-device and cross-platform compatibility testing
  • Manage time, priorities and requests for a broad range of tasks
  • Translate technical concepts into language that can be easily understood by a wide variety of audiences and skill levels
  • Provide hands-on content management training on a per need basis 

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree and minimum 3 years of experience or equivalent in the field of web site development.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Proficiency in web application coding and be able to provide examples of completed projects
  • 4+ years of experience with a combination of the following: PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX, CSS, and HTML
  • Experience working with the Drupal Content Management System or Object-Oriented PHP (or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of language-specific secure programming techniques
  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively with others
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Able to collaborate effectively with other team members to meet deadlines
  • Strong desire to learn and work in a science environment

Desired Experience/Skills:

  • Additional familiarity with Earth Science, Physical Science or related field with emphasis in remote sensing or equivalent
  • Previous NOAA experience

Physical Qualification(s) Required:

  • Ability to use a computer 

Mental Qualification(s) Required:

  • Ability to think on one's feet 

U.S. citizenship or Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) is required.
