Global Science & Technology, Inc. (GST), a growing scientific and high technology company, seeks experienced Instrument Calibration Scientists/Engineers to support work on a satellite visible and infrared instrument.  Position is located in Greenbelt, MD.

Position Summary:

GST is seeking Instrument Calibration Scientist/Engineers to work with a satellite visible and infrared imager.  Will support ground calibration and validation followed by initial commissioning and on-orbit calibration and characterization of optical Earth imaging sensors. It involves space remote sensing instruments' operations, performance analyses and sensor calibration throughout instruments' life cycle. The incumbent will monitor and independently assess instrument performance, develop and utilize software for processing the data from instrument systems (pre-launch and on-orbit data) and related ancillary data sources that will be used to generate first level data products and performance assessments. The work also involves instrument characterization, and calibration/validation (cal/val) algorithm improvement, as well as frequent interactions with the scientific user community to investigate instrument calibration and performance issues. 

Required Education/Experience/Skills:                                                                        

  • M.S. degree or higher in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science or comparable field of study and a minimum of 4 years of related experience.  An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Demonstrated experience with analysis software such as IDL, C++, and Python
  • Strong background in data analytics, and able to identify and perform research tasks
  • Capable of working both independently and within a dynamic science team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and oral presentations made at major science conferences
  • Ability to work with others as a research team
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment 

Desired Experience/Skills:

  • Experience working with space sensors testing, calibration and characterization
  • Experience with thermal infra-red sensors and associated calibration algorithm and data analysis 

 Physical Qualification(s) Required:

  • Ability to use a computer 

Mental Qualification(s) Required:

  • Ability to think on one's feet 

U.S. citizenship or Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) is required.
