Global Science & Technology, a growing scientific and high technology firm, is seeking a Communications Specialist to support the NOAA Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research. Position is located in Silver Spring, MD.

Position Summary:

The Communications Specialist will be responsible for providing communications support for OAR. The qualified candidate will provide written and oral communications, develop clear, concise, understandable information for various target audiences, and translate complex scientific information for non-scientific audiences.

 Primary Duties:

  • Develop audience-appropriate talking points and written communication for senior management.
  • Provide presentation layout/design support in PowerPoint.
  • Establish and maintain communications among NOAA, OAR, industry, universities, academia, other government agencies and non-governmental agencies.
  • Produce reports, brochures, speeches, and audiovisual materials.
  • Develop, execute, and manage comprehensive strategic communications plans for clients.
  • Plan and facilitate inter-agency and intra-agency working groups and collaborative projects for public engagements, exhibits, events, and displays. 

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Master's degree in Communications, Production, or other related field of study. Appropriate years of relevant experience can substitute for degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, and have experience translating complex scientific information for non-scientific audiences.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office suite, including MS Access. 

Desired Experience/Skills:

  • Experience working with Science on a Sphere.
  • Understanding of scientific, especially environmental, data.
  • Prior NOAA experience.

  • None. 

Mental Qualification(s) Required:

  • Ability to multitask. 

U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency is highly desirable.
