Global Science & Technology, a growing scientific and high-technology firm, is seeking a part-time User-Outreach Technical Coordinator to support the NOAA NWS Satellite Readiness Support Services Contract located in Silver Spring, MD. 

Position Summary:

The User-Outreach Technical Coordinator will be responsible for developing correspondence and outreach materials supporting the Office of Observations. The candidate will provide professional products and services in support of NWS and will support communication activities, outreach, and program and project management.

Primary Duties:

  • Perform environmental satellite data/product display/visualization/enhancement/manipulation with applications in weather monitoring, analysis, and forecasting.
  • Develop and prepare scientific illustrations, graphics, charts, photographic images, graphs, figures, maps, pamphlets, and other visual communication products for professional publications.
  • Use government-provided off-the-shelf graphic design software to produce visual communication products for print, electronic presentations, briefings, and the web, such as reports, brochures, banners, posters, diagrams/figures, electronic publications, and illustrations
  • Produce visually compelling designs that enhance understanding using graphic design principles and aesthetic design concepts. Edit and reformat photos, graphics, and images for consistency, accuracy, and composition for professional publication.
  • Create maps and geographic information for use in multimedia and websites.
  • Assist with project tracking and ticketing system.
  • Draft, coordinate, and execute website content, assist with website strategic development, and maintain certain pages within NWS domain websites.
  • Obtain, coordinate, and compile data from independent observations, reviews with staff members, and/or studies of published materials and existing documentation.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, with over 8 years of professional experience. Appropriate years of relevant experience can substitute for degree.
  • Experience with environmental weather satellites (e.g., GOES and POES, but preferably others as well).
  • Experience/training and/or familiarity with hydrometeorological measurements, data, units, and representation.
  • Experience in using Linux (preferably Red Hat) tools, utilities (e.g., cron), and shell commands and scripts.
  • Experience with archiving utilities (e.g., tar), compression utilities (e.g., gzip).
  • Experience with remote sensing.
  • Experience using or testing AWIPS software applications such as meteorological data decoding and display systems.
  • Experience with Linux system admin/scripting, Git, web development, PSQL, MS Office.

Desired Experience/Skills:

  • Prior NOAA experience.
  • Atmospheric science, meteorology, and weather forecasting.

  • Ability to multitask.

U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency is highly desirable.
