Global Science & Technology, a growing scientific and high-technology firm, is seeking a Lead Cloud Computer Scientist/Software Engineer to support the NOAA Earth Prediction Innovation Center (EPIC) Contract located in Greenbelt, MD.

Position Summary:

The Lead Cloud Computer Scientist/Software Engineer will be responsible for developing the continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines for EPIC software development. This candidate will oversee the containerization and integration of models into the Unified Forecast System (UFS), software development, code and test review. 

Primary Duties:

  • Develop and execute clear project deliverables and success metrics.
  • Lead and support UFS code improvement services in collaboration with scientists, comprehensive code, and science-based documentation.
  • Support professional software, infrastructure and computational engineers to work directly with scientists in an integrated cross-disciplinary environment to ensure that the UFS code is easily maintainable, extensible and performance optimized.
  • Provide services and support for the development and integration of scientific software components, development and use of tools for user support requests.
  • Participate in design and implementation meetings for strategic planning, scientific workshops, tutorials, and/or hackathons related to the UFS. 

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline with emphasis on Cloud Computation and Architecture with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in architecture development in at least two of these technologies: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform.
  • Background in code development for numerical methods.
  • Understanding of UFS models, such as FV3, ESMF, and CCPP
  • Experience with containerization
  • Experience with high-performance computing in cloud environments
  • Experience with C++, DevOps, GitHub, Python, SQL, Spark, Apache, HTML, Hadoop, Scala, Kafka, JavaScript, Redshift, AJAX, LINUX, Java, and PHP.

Desired Experience/Skills:

  • Advanced degrees in Computer Science, Engineering, Atmospheric Numerical Modeling, Cloud Technologies or related fields are highly desired.
  • Experiencing strategizing, designing and implementing cloud security.
  • Prior NOAA experience in NESDIS or NWS.
  • Experience with Docker, Singularity, Charliecloud, Kubernetes. 

Physical Qualification(s) Required:

  • Ability to use a computer.

Mental Qualification(s) Required:

  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to lead and inspire a team of professionals of varying backgrounds

 U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency is highly desirable.
